The Ladykillers

New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich, IP1 2AS

A few more details ...

The New Wolsey Theatre, Salisbury Playhouse and Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch by arrangement with Fiery Angel Limited, London presents

The Classic Ealing Comedy on a new Regional Tour.

When Mrs Wilberforce puts a sign in her newsagent’s window advertising ‘A Room to Let’, she’s delighted when the mysterious Professor Marcus proclaims it perfect for rehearsing his unorthodox string quintet. She soon discovers that she is not making tea for a motley band of musicians, but harbouring a hardened gang of criminals and conmen planning the great Kings Cross Train Robbery!

Graham Linehan (Father Ted, The IT Crowd) has adapted this much-loved film for the stage, mixing madcap comedy and criminal capers to hilarious effect. As his masterplan goes off the rails, and the bodies drop onto them, it begins to dawn on the Professor that, in Mrs Wilberforce and General Gordon, her extraordinary featherless parrot, he may have finally met his match.

From the motion picture screenplay by William Rose by special arrangement with Studiocanal and with Fiery Angel Ltd, London

I Had A Black Dog

HEG High Street Exhibition Gallery, High Street, Ipswich, IP1 3QH

A few more details ...

Presented By Small Nose Productions

'I Had a Black Dog...his name was depression.'

A darkly comedic and sensitive look at one man’s life with depression. Small Nose Productions bring you a moving and playful adaptation of Matthew Johnstone’s international bestseller “I had a black dog, his name was depression”.

Enjoy the simple telling of a love story. Boy meets a girl and they fall in love. But the boy doesn't come alone! There is a third party in the form of...a black dog who is always by Joe’s side, sometimes hiding in the corner, sometimes sleeping in their bed.

When the black dog firmly moves in with the couple for a long stretch the effects of its presence get bigger and bigger.
Can Joe tame the beast and keep the girl?

Audiences said: “I found myself laughing out loud and recognised a little thought that said: “You shouldn’t be laughing, this is serious, you’re being inappropriate!” (I told that voice to shut -up, ‘I’m enjoying myself’)

“It lightened, it played with our feelings of inclusion and exclusion…At times the humour tangibly united us.”

Oxy & The Morons

A New Wolsey Theatre Production

A Brand New Punk Musical
By Paul Sirett, Mike Peters & Steve Allan Jones

When a routine check-up leads to a startling diagnosis, Andy decides it’s time to put the band back together, to crank up the amps, and party like its 1978! Why not re-form the legendary Oxy & the Morons, who burned fiercely before exploding in a riot of rivalry, jealousy and bitter betrayal? Andy’s mission involves twisting arms, healing wounds and putting his family and friendships back together. But can that punk spirit of DIY defiance be rekindled over thirty years later? Can you still pogo when your knees go? Will they play their trademark punk take of It’s Not Unusual as an encore?

This brand new musical is fast, furious and very funny. Written by Paul Sirett (Reasons to be Cheerful, Mods and Rox), Mike Peters (The Alarm) and Steve Allan Jones, with a machine gun playlist of original songs, this affectionate look back at the days of teen spirit suggest we could all do with some of that garage band power right now.

Oliver!

Seckford Theatre, Burkitt Road, Woodbridge, IP12 4JH

A few more details ...

The Company of Four are proud to present OLIVER!
Music, Lyrics and Book by Lionel Bart
Licensed by Arrangement with Oliver Productions,
Ltd. and Oliver Promotions, Ltd.

Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart's classic musical based on Charles Dickens' novel, Oliver Twist. The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and is picked up on the street by a boy named the Artful Dodger where he finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly and conniving, but charismatic, Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, a kind and wealthy gentleman called Mr. Brownlow takes him in much to the dismay of Fagin’s violent sidekick, Bill Sykes. Caught in the middle is the warm-hearted Nancy, who is trapped under Bill’s thumb, but desperate to help Oliver, with tragic results threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

With spirited, timeless songs like “As Long as He Needs Me,” “Food, Glorious Food,” and “Where is Love,” Oliver! is a musical classic.

The production of Oliver! will also star a live dog in the role of Bulls-Eye.

Family tickets (2 adults & 2 children under 16) are available for all performances. This special discounted rate will be confirmed at the end of your transaction.

The Enormous Turnip

New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich, IP1 2AS

A few more details ...

Presented by Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company

Living in their tiny shed squeezed in amongst the garden tools, Mr and Mrs Chickweed’s amazing prize-winning vegetables have taken over everything! Before they retire, they can’t resist planting one last seed, try for one more champion vegetable and one more trophy!

But no one knew that a vegetable could grow bigger than the cat, bigger than the dog, bigger than you and me put together! It’s gigantic, it’s blocking out the light, it’s roots are under the house and it’s taking over!

Help save the day as we all pull together to get this enormous turnip out of the ground before it takes over the planet!

Following sell-out performances last year, Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company come to the New Wolsey Theatre with their unswerving energy, live music and eccentric puppetry in this re-potted version of the world-famous children’s story.

For seedlings aged 3-10 and all the family. Meet the characters and puppets after the show.

Presented by Little Angel Theatre

Explore the wow-world of colours with this curious little owl who is determined to stay awake to see what day light brings.

From the warm pink glow of dawn through to a day filled with the bright colours of green leaves, blue sky, grey clouds and, finally, a stunning rainbow — ‘WOW!’. But despite the beauty of the daytime world, the little owl decides that the night-time stars are the most beautiful of all.

WOW! Said the Owl, the acclaimed children’s book by award winning author Tim Hopgood, is brought to life through a blend of beautiful story-telling, puppetry and music. Directed by Joy Haynes, this show will delight and excite children ages 2 to 5.
