After the success of our 2024/25 Theatre in Education show 'Hare and Tortoise', we are pleased to introduce our brand-new production 'Grandad Anansi', touring Suffolk and North Essex primary schools in April–May 2026.
Grandad is as smart and mischievous as the wily spider Anansi, but as they tend the flowers in his beautiful garden, can he find a way to tell his granddaughter about his plans to return to his homeland in the Caribbean? Filled with original songs and classic Jamaican folktales, Grandad Anansi is an uplifting tale of love, courage, and the power of letting go.
Written by award-winning children’s author Elayne Ogbeta, Grandad Anansi was originally produced by Half Moon Theatre and Z-arts.
We will be touring primary schools in the Suffolk and North Essex region in April–May 2026. The production is aimed at school years 2–5, but it is suitable for all year groups. Booking is now open — if you would like to find out more about bringing Grandad Anansi to your school, please follow the link below to register your interest.
Alongside the performance, we will also be offering drama workshops that explore Anansi folktales and elements from the play, helping your students engage with its themes and supporting your delivery of the national curriculum. We can offer a range of topics or create a bespoke workshop based on your needs. If you would like to know more, please contact our Producer, Becca Hall, at rhall@wolseytheatre.co.uk.

The combination of physical theatre and live music was spell binding for our children. A very high percentage of them don’t have English as their first language. Some children who find school very challenging and who struggle to access the curriculum were completely focused for the entire piece. Seeing their faces was almost as good as the show itself. We have had other touring performances before and this was by far the best we have seen and most suited to the needs of our children.

A fantastic performance that had all of the children engaged from the minute it started until the minute it finished. Very well thought through with an amazing set up and brilliant performers.
