Bring your story’s world to life! This workshop explores atmosphere and worldbuilding, helping you craft immersive settings—fiction or otherwise.

Authentic, richly detailed settings can elevate fiction and nonfiction alike. But how do you evoke place on the page in a credible way? Is it possible to describe a country that you have not visited before – or a universe that doesn’t exist?

In this workshop we will explore how atmosphere and worldbuilding can transport the reader somewhere else, with an emphasis on how it serves your storytelling and themes. Wolsey Writers one-day workshops are led by Katie Ward, an award-winning author from Suffolk.

Every session (10:30am-3:45pm) includes a deep dive into our topic, tools and techniques to improve your creative practice, and dedicated time for your own writing or WIP.
