Turn your research into a story in this Creating Writing workshop
Please note: this event will take place at St Clements Art Centre (Fore St, Ipswich IP4 1JZ)
Historical fiction brings the past into the present – but how do we write about a time when we weren’t there? In this workshop, you’ll explore how to turn research into a story. When does your research begin – and when do we set it aside and start writing? How do we use historical detail to create a world that feels clear, convincing and alive on the page? Through a series of writing exercises and discussion, you’ll work on shaping character, voice and narrative within a chosen time period. You’ll consider how to balance accuracy with storytelling, and how to create characters who feel grounded in their world while still engaging the modern reader. You’ll spend time writing, trying things out, and beginning to shape a piece of historical fiction of your own.
