The New Wolsey’s outgoing Artistic Director Peter Rowe sat down with us to reflect on an incredible 22 years with us!
Pete leads us through how his career began, and how his early work inspired some of the unforgettable work created at our theatre, including the rise of actor-musician shows, as well as the birth of our famous rock ‘n’ roll pantomimes.
We talk about his creative process for the pantos, discussing how the stories get chosen, how the script in all it’s rhyming glory is formed, and how he puts together the memorable set lists for each script.
We speak about what’s next for him, including an intriguing road trip across Europe in a VW bus, before we get onto the topic of the two shows that he’s penned in to direct later this year – Trio and Goldilocks and the Three Bears… including a sneak preview of a handful of the songs from Trio!
Thank you to Pete for joining us on this episode, as well as of course being at the helm of so many productions here at the New Wolsey over the years!
