We’re pausing for thought

9 Apr 2020 News, Press Release

We like to think of our audience members as friends; after all, without an audience there is no theatre. So, dear friend, we’re going to level with you.

We’re thinking about Autumn. We have a cracking season of shows lined up for you. But it’s likely to change. Some of the visiting companies are starting to tell us they may have to cancel or postpone.  This left us with a dilemma: Do we keep on selling those tickets knowing that we may have to refund them? How long can we wait until the picture becomes clear?  Has anyone got a crystal ball we can borrow?

Well, no-one turned up with a crystal ball at our Zoom meeting this morning, so we decided the right thing to do is to level with our friends.  So here we are, looking you in the eye and we’re saying: ‘ We don’t know what our Autumn Season will look like, so we’re not going to sell any more tickets until we do know. Please be patient with us because these things are beyond our control.’

We sincerely hope that you’ll look right back and say, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll sit tight and be ready to book tickets just as soon as you give the green light.  We can’t wait to come back to the New Wolsey theatre and of course we won’t forget you, silly!’

If you’ve bought tickets for the Autumn Season already, thank you and don’t worry. As soon as we know what’s happening, we’ll be in touch.  Your show may well go ahead.  It’s just that we’re not 100% certain at this time.

We are welcoming bookings for our Rock ‘n’ Roll panto, Jack and the Beanstalk. We are confident that we’ll have a spectacular show for you this year. We’re also delighted to see that tickets are selling for our special Birthday Shows on 31st January and 1st February 2021.  These were always going to be extraordinary fundraising events and after the year we’re all having we’ll be ready for the party of a lifetime, won’t we? Our very own Lucy Mellamphy is Chief Party Planner and we know she’ll make sure those show days are unforgettable. If you have a brilliant idea for our party next year, just drop Lucy an email at: lmellamphy@wolseytheatre.co.uk or you can book tickets here

We’re busy processing refunds for our cancelled Spring and Open Season shows; we’ve processed more than 50% already, thanks to our team working very hard from home.  Many of you turn your tickets into donations or credits for future shows, which is amazingly generous. Every donation gets a round of applause, by the way!

If you want to talk to us we’re here – just email tickets@wolseytheatre.co.uk  with your phone number and we’ll call you back.
