The New Wolsey Theatre is looking for five D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent theatre makers or practitioners, based in East Anglia, to work with our Youth Theatres from November 2022 to February 2023.

This paid opportunity will include:

  • 12 sessions working alongside our experienced practitioners in a range of Youth Theatre groups.
  • 3 workshops led by experts in inclusive practice that will support you to gain the skills needed to plan and lead theatre workshops with young people and community groups.
  • A chance to make connections with other artists and arts organisations in the region.

The Inclusive Practice Practitioner’s network has come about in response to a lack of pathways for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent theatre makers to develop the skills needed to plan and deliver workshops, and a desire to increase the amount of D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists who feel confident in sharing their practice with young people and community groups.

By diversifying the range of theatre makers that have experience of working in participation we will increase the quality of the participation offer in our venue, and support a richer, more inclusive way of working across the region.

Who is it for?

D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent practitioners who already have some experience of working with community groups or young people, and D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent theatre makers who want to explore working in participation for the first time.

When are the sessions?

The New Wolsey runs eight Youth Theatres during the school term for young people aged 7 to 20 plus.

All sessions are during the evenings and successful candidates need to be available to come to Ipswich for at least one evening a week, for twelve weeks.

You will also need to be available for 3 full day workshops. Dates and times to be confirmed.

The Youth Theatre sessions will start in the week commencing 31st of October. There will be a break for Christmas followed by further sessions in the new year. The final week of the project will be the week commencing 13th February 2023.

Every artist will be paid our Emerging Practitioner rate of £15 an hour for the Youth Theatre sessions and £10 an hour for meetings.
