The Mikado - New Wolsey Theatre

The Mikado

Performed from Tue 25 — Sat 29 Oct

Presented by Ipswich Gilbert and Sullivan Society

This brand-new, 1930s-inspired production of the Gilbert and Sullivan classic transports the mythical town of Titipu from the Far East to a country estate in the East…of England.

In this topsy turvy kingdom, flirting has been made a capital offence. A lowly tailor falls foul of this law but his sentence is commuted when he inexplicably finds himself elevated to the position of Lord High Executioner. Mayhem ensues when his attractive bride-to-be falls for a member of the town’s brass band – only to find that the humble trombone player is the heir to the throne in disguise and on the run from a vengeful jilted fiancée.

The delightful score to this much-loved musical comedy includes the instantly recognisable “Three Little Maids From School”, “Tit Willow”, “A Wand’ring Minstrel I” and, of course, “Behold the Lord High Executioner”.
