Presented by Appeal Theatre Company
With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favourite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical.
The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on.
Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not so bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan
and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.
The production runs for 1 hour and 40 minutes with no interval.
An amateur production by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Ltd on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.
This is an amateur production presented as part of the New Wolsey’s annual Open Season. Find out more by browsing the Creative Learning section of our website.
With tongue firmly in cheek, it’s a charming spoof full of silly songs and some surreal set-pieces;
this prodution hits all the right notes
Catchy songs, witty dialog and flamboyance bordering on the obscene, ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ has it all.
A great musical! Excellent performance by the narrator that links the whole show together. Funny and clever and thoroughly enjoyable!!
