From unadorned voices to sonic rapture, join us at St. Clement's Church for an night of musical magic. This event is presented in partnership with Colchester Arts Centre and programmed jointly by Stafford Glover, Robert Pacitti & Anthony Roberts.

Dead Rat Orchestra, the UK’s leading avant folk adventurers, adrift in a sea of sound and possibility, plucking textures and melodies from a vast array of influences to craft an idiosyncratic vision of contemporary music and performance.

She Shanties formed in 2011 when 12 strong voices were brought together through a shared love of singing and harmonising (particularly in beer tents). Since then, they have performed at gigs and festivals across the UK and beyond. They’re looking forward to celebrating their fifth birthday on 12th November with big sing aboard a cruise down the Tyne!

Cath & Phil Tyler play Anglo-American folk music using guitar, banjo, voice and fiddle. Coming together musically through a shared love of traditional narrative song, full voiced sacred harp singing and sparse mountain banjo, they have performed on stages as diverse as the Royal Opera House in London and a dank tower in the old city walls of Newcastle.

Documents is a development of Andy Sharp’s long standing creative research project English Heretic. With a remit to explore ethnographies of the imaginal, for the SPILL Festival, he will be premiering new music synthesised from four years of field work. From the last recordings at Aleister Crowley’s infamous abode at Boleskine via the locations of Polanski’s Repulsion to the kitsch cinematic adaptations of Lovecraft, Documents present Houses On The Borderland.

MacGillivray is the Highland name of Kirsten Norrie, poet, performance artist and musician. She has performed live internationally as a performance artist with The Wolf in the Winter and the Parlour Collective in Greenland, Vietnam, Scandinavia, Europe, the UK and the US. In 2015 she toured the US and Australia performing poetry and music and her work has appeared on the BBC, as part of film soundtracks for Britdoc/Channel 4 and in 2014 made a short Gaelic fantasy film on the Isle of Skye.
