To celebrate Sir Trevor Nunn’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at New Wolsey Theatre, author Katie Ward is delighted to offer this one-off course for adult learners.
In a single night in a forest outside Athens, fairies wreak havoc on the lives of a group of mortals – and each other. An enchanted look is enough to fall wildly in love with the most unsuitable of creatures and, worse still, to forget the person you once loved. What, if anything, is Shakespeare showing us about the nature of desire, versus true love? Does his Dream have a dark side?
Using examples and discussion we will explore the themes, set pieces and memorable characters of this truly magical play. Previous knowledge is not assumed, but if you know the text already, this is an opportunity to consider it more deeply with other enthusiastic readers and theatre-goers.
Numbers are limited, so early booking is recommended.
Suitable for Fairies, Lovers and Mechanicals!
Each session runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm and we recommend booking for both weeks! Tea and coffee provided.
