HighTide Firstlight Readings – Writers Week - New Wolsey Theatre

HighTide Firstlight Readings – Writers Week

Performed on Sat 25 Jun

The image shows a group of people sitting on chairs on a stage, under a warm spotlight with everything beyond it in darkness. There are about 20 people and they are talking in small groups.

HighTide Theatre present a sharing of work-in-progress by writers from the East of England. Join us for a sneak peek at some of the new work that HighTide is developing, fresh from their premieres at Lowestoft’s First Light Festival, and directed by Chloe France and HighTide Literary Associate, Sarah Jane Schostack.

Sadie Clark’s as-yet untitled piece explores Queer identity in rural communities, farming and climate anxiety. Luke Wright’s Letter From The Future, commissioned by HighTide, is a snapshot from twenty years’ time, as a son questions his father as to why he was brought into a world of Boris, Brexit and the global pandemic. Yaz Zadeh - HighTide Associate Artist - and Mary Malone present Two Figures - part movement, part new writing - in a new work-in-progress sharing exploring rituals, bacon and humanising trans bodies.

This event is part of Writers’ Week – an inspiring programme of readings and writing events, a true space for everyone interested in all things writing to come together and celebrate the power of words.

All the events are free of charge but we will be holding bucket collections throughout the week to raise money to support the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. So not only will you be getting involved in some thought-provoking and interesting events, but you’ll be supporting a humanitarian cause at the same time!
