In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad auditions for a spot on “The Corny Collins Show” and wins.
She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion.
Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny’s reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show. Hairspray is a feel-good factor musical with strong messages about tolerance of difference.
This is an amateur production presented as part of the New Wolsey’s annual Open Season. Find out more by browsing the Creative Learning section of our website.
This is a 10/10 show and Director Steve Wooldridge should be incredibly proud of what he and the cast and crew have achieved; you are all west end quality. I thoroughly enjoyed every second.
Saw the Friday evening performance and what a fantastic show. Could not fault it, a talented cast all round with brilliant direction and choreography, together with superb music. You would not get a better amateur show - certainly west end standard.
