Fiddler on the Roof - New Wolsey Theatre

Fiddler on the Roof

Performed from Wed 5 — Sat 8 Jul

IODS Theatre Company are thrilled to be returning to the New Wolsey Theatre this summer with their musical production of Fiddler on the Roof!

With a cast of 40, a 10-piece orchestra and an extremely talented production team, this is set to be one of their most exciting shows to date.

The show features a star turn in Tevye, among the most memorable roles in musical theatre. With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were A Rich Man," and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" Fiddler on the Roof is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humour and heart.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, Ukraine, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colourful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instil in them traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving you crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. Touching audiences worldwide with its humour, warmth and honesty, this universal show is a staple of the musical theatre canon.

This story is all the more poignant currently with the war in Ukraine and as such the company will be fundraising for the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal during the whole week of the production.

Winner of 9 Tony Awards when it debuted in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof is the brainchild of Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, and book-writer Joseph Stein.

This is a community theatre production by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association award-winning IODS Theatre Company.
