HMS Pinafore

Performed from Wed 1 — Sat 4 Nov

An illustration in the bottom-right corner shows a woman sitting on the bow of a white sailing boat, holding a white brolly, kissing a male sailor on the boat who holds a Union Jack flag. Their boat sails over a calm blue sea. The background of the rest of the image is the pale-blue sky. Blue and white text over it reads 'H.M.S. Pinafore, or, The Lass that Loved a Sailor, A comic operetta! Seckford Theatre, Woodbridge, 1st-4th November 2023, Ipswich Gilbert & Sullivan Society.'

Ahoy there! Join the award-winning Ipswich Gilbert & Sullivan Society at the Seckford Theatre for their fun-filled production of the world's first smash hit musical comedy H.M.S. Pinafore!

H.M.S. Pinafore is a comedic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan that satirizes British society and the class system of the Victorian era. The story revolves around the captain's daughter, Josephine, who is in love with a lowly sailor named Ralph Rackstraw. However, her father intends for her to marry Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty (though he's never actually been to sea!). The love triangle and the class divide create humorous situations and misunderstandings. The plot unfolds with mistaken identities, secret agreements, and comedic twists as the characters navigate their desires and societal expectations. Will love conquer all?
