‘The course of true love never did run smooth’
– Lysander, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
This magical comedy is one of the best loved and most performed works in Shakespeare’s canon. Filled with fairies, quarrelling lovers, a play-within-a-play, and a famous Bottom, the Dream is visually stunning, naughty and surreal, while also being accessible and entertaining theatre.
This talk is a perfect introduction for audience members new to the play or wishing to understand it better before seeing it. Offering commentary and insights local author, Katie Ward, will highlight some of the main themes and moments to look out for in the show, and share thoughts on what Shakespeare says here about the human heart.
