Andrew Hayden-Smith Andrew Hayden-Smith is a North East born actor, presenter and voice over artist. Credits include Byker Grove, CBBC, Doctor Who and This Morning. Andrew made his on screen debut at the tender age of 12 on the set of children’s drama series, Byker Grove. There, he played the role of bad boy Ben Carter for 7 series before leaving for London where he became a CBBC Presenter.Andrew hosted the afternoon slot on BBC1 for 3 years as well as presenting his own show, The UK Top 40 every Sunday evening on the CBBC Channel in connection with Radio 1. Andrew has played the role of Freedom Fighter Jake Simmonds in Series 2 of Doctor Who where he battled the Cybermen in the episodes, ‘Rise of the
Cybermen’ and ‘The Age of Steel’ before returning in the series finale to take on the Daleks in the episode, ‘Doomsday’. Andrew made his mark on the West End stage shortly after, playing Romeo in Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. Andrew’s Voice Over work includes various radio and TV commercials and more prominently as one of the regular Announcers for ITV2. Andrew has starred in the AKT NOW campaign for The Albert Kennedy Trust, working alongside Sir Ian McKellen and Paul O’Grady among others in the hope of raising awareness for young, homeless LGBT people. Andrew has been a reporter for Channel 5’s ‘Live with Gabby’ and various TV appearances include Doctor Who specials of Weakest Link and Pointless Celebrities as well as a panelist on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side. You can currently hear Andrew putting those Geordie tones to good use as an Announcer on ITV2 and is a regular presenter of The Hub on ITV’s This Morning.Andrew recently filmed the E4 series Banana, and is currently filming Cucumber for Channel 4.
