19 Feb 2020 News, Press Release

Jack and the Beanstalk in large green capital letters, with leaf shapes inside them.

We are thrilled to announce that the next rock ‘n’ roll showstopper by Peter Rowe will be Jack and the Beanstalk!

Dame Dolly Durden’s family farm has fallen on hard times – Squire Snuffbox is demanding the rent and Giant Blunderbore, with his wicked sidekick, Fleshcreep, is terrorising the land. There’s only one thing for it – Jack will have to sell their last remaining cow, Bessie. But when Jack comes back from the market with nothing more than a bag of beans it looks like the Durdens are done for.

Then up pops Fairy Aubergine, up jumps a gigantic beanstalk and Jack is soon on his way up too, battling giants, rescuing the family farm and romancing the Squire’s spirited daughter, Jill. Brought to you by the famous New Wolsey company of multi-skilled actor musicians, it’s the best of pantomime mixed with the best songs from the classic rock and pop playlist, all played live before your eyes, including ‘Hit The Road Jack,’ ‘Lady Marmalade,’ ‘Get Offa My Cloud,’ ‘Go Your Own Way’ and many, many more. This glorious mash up of pantomime and pop concert is a festive treat for all the family. Running from Thursday 26 November 2020 to Saturday 30 January 2021, this year’s panto will be GIANT size!

AND, on February 1st 2021 it will be twenty years to the day from the opening production of The New Wolsey Theatre and the first performance of Sweeney Todd. To mark this big birthday we will be staging two additional performances of Jack and the Beanstalk with a special birthday twist, inviting friends and favourites from pantos past to put in a guest appearance. See Dame Dolly Durden appear in many different guises! Watch the evil Fleshcreep come up the trap as a brand-new baddy every time! It’s Panto Jack but not as we know it! This all-star cast of rock ‘n’ roll panto favourites in a Best of the 21st Century Birthday Bonanza will only be available for two nights and both shows will be British Sign Language interpreted. Trust us, it is not to be missed – save Sunday 31 January and Monday 1 February 2021 in your calendars!

ALL Friday 9:00pm shows will have an age guidance of 12+ and the 9:00pm show on Friday 22 January 2021 will be a Singalong Special, for those of you who love a bit of karaoke…

Pre-recorded Audio Description will be available from the 1:30pm show on Tuesday 8th December 2020 onwards and Touch Tours will be at 1:30pm on Saturday 19th and Wednesday 30th December 2020 and at 1:30pm on Saturday 16th January 2021.
