THE WRITERS’ WORKSHOPThe WRITERS’ WORKSHOP offers a chance for people interested in writing for the stage to workshop their ideas and scripts.If you’re interested in creative dramatic writing, our Sunday all-day workshops with theatre writing professionals are continuing in the Spring. Dates for your diary are: Sunday 24 February 2008 Michael Bartlett: Writing Radio Drama This workshop explores the basic techniques of writing a radio play and how the usual dramatic requirements of structure, plot, character and development can be presented through sound alone. Using examples from broadcast radio plays and a series of practical exercises, it examines how the 4 tools of the radio writer – dialogue, music, sound effects and silence – can be used to create pictures in the mind. Michael has been a professional writer specialising in radio drama for over 30 years. He has also been a script editor and producer with BBC radio drama and has directed many plays, documentaries and readings. Sunday 27 April 2008 Analogue:Embracing New Technologies in New Writing Analogue won a prestigious Fringe First at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival for Mile End (“…neuron-firing, emotionally hot-wired theatre from a visionary young company” – The Metro). In this unique workshop, key members of the Analogue team share their working methods – from capturing the original spark of the idea, through to embracing new technologies and developing the play through a process of devising and collaboration.
