Two men, many characters, and four boxes; A Space Oddity was not at all a Hollywood feature film, with the use of kitchen utensils and fruit as spaceships, satellites and planets. This piece of home-made theatre is fun and stupid.
The set was minimal. To the extent of, excluding lights; four boxes were the only set. The four boxes were maneuvered to create different objects and scenery. The use of the boxes with a physical theatre aspect was admirable, and not always with a minimal set, but with this one, it was believable.
The piece, although funny, lacked point and content sometimes. Too many holes needed to be filled. Sometimes the humor was lackluster and unnecessary.
Gavin Robertson and Jonathan Bex, had a nice comedic style, a subtle witty humor that made you laugh, if not smiled. This ‘organic’ piece is a fantastic night out, suitable for all ages.
Overall a good piece to admire, but maybe the company had bitten off too much to chew, with two men, one hour and a huge universal excursion. An entertaining piece.
