Read on for details of rehearsals starting for It's a Wonderful Life, some shows to watch at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe and a link to this week's The Guardian blog which compares The New Wolsey's Pulse Fringe Festival favourably with the Edinburgh Fringe...
We're gearing up to start rehearsals on Monday for our opening autumn production, the world premiere musical stage adaptation of the much-loved Hollywood movie it's a Wonderful Life (10 September - 3 October) which we are presenting in association with Avalon Promotions. With 17 actors, plus two teams of 7 child actors plus a band, it's the largest New Wolsey cast ever and is bound to attract the attention of the national meda - some of whom are already blogging about it, such as The Stage newspaper - see http://www.thestage.co.uk/news/newsstory.php/25178/new-wolsey-theatre-to-adapt-its-a-wonderful
Meanwhile, The Guardian's Theatre Blog this week contrasted the New Wolsey's Pulse Fringe Festival (which takes place during May and June each year) favourably with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which opened this week. If you are venturing to Edinburgh this August (or there now as you read this), please make sure you see a couple of shows The New Wolsey is closely involved with. Beachy Head (Pleasance Kingdome, 5 - 30 August, 5.25pm) is presented by fringe first winners Analogue in co-production with The New Wolsey. Poginant and moving, this show follows the success of their 2007 Mile End. The New Wolsey's Associate Company Gecko are presenting their intensely physical, playful and mesmerising adaptation The Overcoat, inspired by Gogol's short story (Pleasance Courtyard, 13-15 August previews then 16-17, 19-24, 26-31 August. 5.20pm).
