Welcome

Welcome to Andrew’s Blog – a space where I’ll be airing thoughts, updating you with news snippets and anything I think you’ll find of interest connected to The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich.

We’ve just gone live with our new web site at www.wolseytheatre.co.uk and over the coming weeks and months will be filling it up with content, video clips, reviews, interviews etc. that we think you’ll want to see.  If you have any comments on the look or content of the site, let me know by posting a comment.

Today, with temperatures in Ipswich nudging 80 degrees Fahrenheit, there’s a lot going on in and around The New Wolsey.  Three schools from south, east and west of Ipswich (East Bergholt High School, St Mary’s Primary School Woodbridge and St Louis Catholic Middle School from Bury St Edmunds) are on stage throughout the day rehearsing for this evening’s 7.30pm performance of Professor and the Soft Machine, a Youth Perform! project which tackles some of the issues of osteoporosis using professional actors alongside the school students who have devised some of their own content for the show.  Produced by our Creative Learning team, and in association with the National Osteoporosis Society, it ends its run tomorrow evening when four more schools take part.

Our autumn 09 season went on sale on Monday and we are particularly excited about our opening autumn show It’s a Wonderful Life (10 Sept – 3 Oct) which we're producing in association with Avalon Productions.  It’s the world premiere musical stage version of the much-loved Hollywood movie which stared James Stewart and boasts the largest ever New Wolsey cast - 17 plus a band!  This coming Saturday 4 July we are holding a day of Open Auditions for children who would like to appear in the show.  We are looking for boys and girls aged between 7 and 12 who love to act and sing.  It’s a truly open audition process so if you are interested, please just turn up.  There’s no need to prepare any material beforehand, just wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to sing.  Girls will be auditioned from 10am, registration at 9.30am.  Boys will be auditioned from 2.30pm, registration at 2pm.  Just turn up to The New Wolsey Theatre, Civic Drive, Ipswich, IP1 2AS this Saturday 4 July.
